If you want a more high-tech model, consider the Shark AI Ultra 2-in-1 self vacuum-Empty Robot Vacuum & Mop. It comes with a huge dock that can last for weeks and not need to be empty. It also has impressive navigation and auto-emptying capabilities on carpets and bare floors. It's also got a smart-mapping system and can be programmed to operate during certain hours of the day (a useful feature to keep mischievous kids and dextrous pets from running it amuck). The Shark isn't as powerful as other mop/robot combinations, but it still picks hair and pet hair extremely well. It's also the highest price of our top picks.

Best for Hard Flooring

Robot vacuums are the best robovac option for hardwood floors since they are able to easily maneuver around obstacles without damaging the floor's surface. They are great in removing dust and crumbs, but struggle with pet hair and larger debris. They don't have the suction of an upright or a top-quality canister vacuum, which makes them unsuitable for deep cleaning upholstery or carpeted areas.

They can also be programmed to only use their cliff sensors only when they are in or near the ground, and not when they are above it.
