How to Replace an audi replacement key audi key fob not working - Highly recommended Internet page - G28 Engine Speed Sensor

Charles the Humble Technician shows how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor is situated near the edges of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU via the grey wire T55/49 and then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

It is located on the outside of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear, the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends an electrical signal to ECU pin T55/49 via a grey wire. The ECU then uses this information to control fuel, timig and boost. It also sends a signal to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster.

The sensor serves as a reference to correlate with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must be aware when the crankshaft is TDC and the location of the camshaft so it can activate spark and injectors according to the situation.

If this sensor fails, the ECU will display an error code P00160. This means that the Crank Shaft is out of line with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate the possibility of a chain stretch or jumped chain link in the upper chain of timing. However, the error code won't be displayed on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It can be a bit difficult to test as there are several pins on the connector, and each has its own functions. The best method for doing this is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read around 1000 ohms when the sensor is in full operation. If you're experiencing issues with this component, look for evidence of oil or coolant in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating from the highway paytoll at a high speed, i noticed a huge decrease in power. It was as if the engine had run out of gas. Or, my injectors were not firing. I took out the spark plugs this morning, three were soaked in gasoline, and the fourth was dry. When I crank the engine, there are no sparks, i place a tissue on top of each injector hole and the 3 that were drenched in gazoline jump out but the 4th stay closed. I checked the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55,30/55 and 48/55 i get 0ohm. I assume that the problem is somewhere else.

I also tried to reset the PID with no success. The car is able to start if the G28 is disconnected and is running fine when it is connected however it is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62) even when it is unplugged, shows temperatures of -49c. Also, i noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit shows 2 bar while the actual pressure is 0.0 when I crank up the engine.

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 can be activated by a signal by the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is the same as the G4 and both function in the 80 100 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a salvage yard or from a parts store. It is simple to test them - just put your DMM into resistance mode and test the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector's end facing up). They should be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B, AAN, ABY and ADU) engines have an ECU that needs to know the speed and position of the crankshaft to make decisions about timing of the fuel injector, for example. It uses a Crank Position Sensor G4 and an Engine Speed Sensor G28 to achieve this. If either of these go badly, you will see codes on the diagnostic scanner which can cause the engine to shut down.

A damaged G28 sensor could result in an inaccurate gearbox speed counter and a gearbox which shifts more quickly than normal, or a misfire in gear. It is possible that your sensor is failing and needs to be replaced if you encounter any of these signs. The good news is they are very affordable and easily accessible particularly if you're looking at the Bosch model, like ours. Alternately, the GM version of this part is also a good option.

A damaged engine sensor could cause a myriad of issues within your vehicle. It's a crucial component of the transmission in your audi car key cover since it sends information to the ECU on how fast or slowly the car's engine is spinning. This sensor could cause the transmission to fail and other components in the car to be affected.

The G5 engine speed sensor is located at the outside of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49 through a grey wire. The ECU is then able to process this signal to control fuel, timig and boost and then transmitting it to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster. You can check the sensor for any failure by checking the continuity between it and the tachometer, between the ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection on pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) and between T6a/1 and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. There should be an average resistance of 1000 ohms between these points. This is a common feature across the audi key programmer 80-100-200-RS2 model, ranging from the 1985 MC all the way up to the 1997 UrS An and 1995 RS2 DU, so you might find good ones in wrecking yards.
